Mike Sofley | 15U - 18U Director | 18's & 16's Head Coach

Coach Michael Sofley Saddleback Volleyball Club will welcome back Coach Michael Sofley to the Saddleback family once again for the 2022/2023 club volleyball season! Mike will serve as our high school club director as well as head coach 18-1 and 17–1. Before serving in the United States Air Force, Mike had a successful high school career and capped off his senior season with a USAV Junior National Championship 1st place finish in Atlanta, Georgia. While serving in the Air Force, Mike was Captain and member of the All Air Force and All Armed Forces volleyball teams, earning multiple medals at USAV Open Nationals as well as the Armed Forces Championships. Along with his high level playing career, Mike brings 15 years of coaching experience to Saddleback! Mike has proven his ability to consistently build and develop high level and competitive club teams. Every year since moving to Orange County, Mike has lead each of his teams to be among Southern California’s best which in SCVA D1 rankings or PVL rankings. Coach Mike has also served and has had much success as a college recruiting director, sending many of his athletes on to play D1, D2, D3 and NAIA volleyball at the next level! Last season, as first year coach with the club and serving as highschool director, Coach Mike built and coached our 18s and 16s teams. Not only did both his teams qualify for the Premier Volleyball League, they both medaled and earned bids to USAV Nationals. Coach Mike brings a passion and intensity for the game that is easy to see when you catch him in the gym! His attention to detail, ability to recognize talent and hands on approach to player development are just a few of the reasons why we are excited to see what Coach Mike and his teams will continue to do here at Saddleback! Ashley Standish | Head Coach

Ashley Standish

Coach Ashley Standish is very excited to be joining the Saddleback family! She has been coaching club volleyball for 11 years at several SoCal clubs and will be coaching girls and boys high school volleyball this year as well. She looks forward to meeting and training the Saddleback athletes for the upcoming seasons!

Mike Bonner | Head Coach

Mike Bonner

Mike Bonner is entering his 23rd year of coaching, and his first year here at Saddleback. Coach Mike has previously coached both boys and girls at Epic Volleyball Club as well as Orange County Volleyball Club. Some coaching highlights include qualifying several teams for Junior Nationals, winning Volleyball Festival, and winning a CIF championship at Westview High School. Coach Mike is an avid Wing Chun practitioner and is extremely involved in the Wing Chun Against Bullying Campaign!

Mark Metrakos | Head Coach

Mark Metrakos

Mark has been around Volleyball for 15 years as a player and the last 11 years as a coach. As a player, he has won a State Championship with Irvine Valley College while playing for Ki in 2011 and making the All-State team honors for 2011 and 2012. He also played at Concordia University Irvine where he won a National Championship in 2013 and Runner-Up in 2014. Both years he was an All-American and still holds records at CUI today. He has coached boys and girls volleyball from U12 all the way to the collegiate level at CUI. Mark is excited to bring his talents back to his original club SVVC and help the club and girls succeed this year!

David Grandy | Coach

David Grandy

Coach Grandy is entering his 4th year coaching at SVVC this year and has coached for 8 seasons at OCVC.  He has coached at Trabuco Hills High School, Saddleback Valley Christian School for both boys and girls. He has also coached at Irvine Valley College where they won the state title! Coach Grandy is excited to work with both the 17’s teams this season!

Kelli Talmage | Head Coach

Kelli Talmage

Coach Kelli Talmage is excited to be returning to club volleyball this season. Kelli was a 4 year starter at the University of Arizona with a final Four appearance. She had been coaching our top teams at SVVC for 16 years leading her teams to 2 silver medals at Nationals. Along with her success coaching our teams, she has also sent numerous players to Division 1 colleges. Kelli is excited to bring her passion, knowledge and enthusiasm to

the 16s age group.

Aly Ryan | Coach

Aly Squires (Ryan)

Coach Aly received a full ride scholarship to play volleyball at UCI from 2010-2014, where she started as an outside and opposite. Aly also was part of the USA beach and indoor training programs. She received her masters and credentials in elementary school teaching at UCI. She currently teaches fourth grade in Mira Loma. Aly has coached in various camps and clinics. She coached 12s and 14s for SCVC Los Cab volleyball club, coached the 14-3 at Prime, coached at Bear Coast beach club in 2015, coached the 16-3 team at MMTSC, and a 17-2 team for Mission Gold.

Jared Britton |  Coach

Jared Britton

Coach Jared has been coaching volleyball for the last 7 years. He started out as a middle school volleyball coach and has also been a member of the Orange Lutheran High School coaching staff for the last 4 seasons. At Orange Lutheran he has been an assistant for the boys and girls frosh-soph teams and in 2017, helped with the varsity team as they won a CIF championship. Throughout the last 3 seasons he has coached with OC Heat with the 12s, 14s and 15s. Jared recently graduated from Concordia University Irvine with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science with an emphasis in Kinesiology. He looks forward to bringing his knowledge and passion for volleyball to Saddleback for the upcoming season.

Ryan Compher | Head Coach

Ryan Compher

Coach Ryan Compher has been playing volleyball for 7 years now and has entered his second year of coaching. He has transitioned into playing beach volleyball recreationally and hopes to join his college team when everything starts to open up again. Nevertheless he still loves the indoor game. This is his second year with Saddleback and he also coaches at Trabuco Hills High School. Ryan is currently studying to become an English teacher and would like to continue coaching as well. He would love to be able to instill a sense of love for this game and in life in all the players he is lucky enough to coach.

Ralph Rivera | Head Coach

Ralph Rivera

Coach Ralph has accomplished a lot in the 13 years he has been coaching. Two years ago he coached SVVC’s 18-1 team to a National Championship title. Prior to that he was an assistant coach on SVVC’s 14-1 and 18-1 teams helping both win silver medals at the Junior National Championships. Coach Ralph managed the PAC-12 University of Arizona Women’s Volleyball Team where he also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While with the University of Arizona Women’s Volleyball program, he helped run practices, took statistics during practices and matches, and compiled scouting reports. Many of Coach Ralph’s players have gone on to play at UCLA, Pepperdine, CSU Northridge, Colorado State, University of Arizona, Ohio State, and many other Division 1 schools. Along with coaching teams in every age group over the years, Coach Ralph has coached SVVC’s 12-1 team for the past four years. Coach Ralph’s broad experience as a player has helped him as a coach. During his four years playing for Trabuco Hills High School and club volleyball at SVVC, Coach Ralph was a middle blocker, pin hitter, and setter. When he is not coaching volleyball, Coach Ralph is spending time with his wife Jessica and son Ralph Jr.

Monty Johns | Head Coach

Monty Johns

This is Monty’s 28th year coaching club volleyball, 20 of the years with Saddleback. He was also the head coach at Mission Viejo High School for 6 years, and is currently the head coach at El Toro High School. Monty has coached all age groups, but has spent the last 11 years working with the younger kids (14s-12s). Coach Monty is excited about the upcoming season as SVVC teams are always filled with outstanding athletes with outstanding attitudes.

Tawnie Savage | Coach

Tawnie Savage

Tawnie Savage was an outside hitter and libero for most of her volleyball career. She played for a junior college for two years and division II for two years. She loves the sport and life lessons that she learned from it such as team work and perseverance. She started coaching right after college for a club in New York and has been with Saddleback for 5 years. She loves being a positive role model for her girls as well as helping them to be the best volleyball player they can be!

Richard Chiu | Head Coach

Richard Chiu

Richard Chiu has been coaching volleyball for 20 years. In his early coaching career he was the JV boys/girls and assistant varsity coach for 6 years at University High School. After graduating college he coached club volleyball at UCI for 3 years. In 2013, Richard was heavily involved with OC Heat Volleyball. He has experience coaching 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, and 16U. Several of his teams were in the Gold and Silver division in SCVA. Richard also has experience is running clinics at Dime Volleyball, Volleyhigh at Saddleback, Spikers, and AAA. In his off days he enjoys spending time with his family, going to Disneyland and Legoland with his two sons. This is Richard's second year at Saddleback and he's excited for the season to start.

Megan Brazelton | Head Coach

Coach Megan comes to Saddleback with club coaching experience at local clubs here in Orange County. She is also currently a beach volleyball player at Hope International University. We are excited to have her this season at Saddleback!

Holly Hennessy | Head Coach

Holly Hennessy

Holly Hennessy has been coaching for 3 years, ages 14s and 15s. This past year, her 14s team was ranked #1 in SCVA. She has a fun energy and a big personality. She will be assisting in the 15s age group and can't wait to meet everyone!

Kristen Braman | Coach

Kristen Braman

Coach Kristen began playing volleyball at SVVC in 1995. She played Division I volleyball at Loyola Marymount University, achieving awards including WCC Player of the Week, and First Team All Conference. She later went on to coach 12's and 16's for SVVC, as well as varsity assistant coach at Tesoro high school. Kristen currently works as a Registered Dental Hygienist in her hometown of Mission Viejo, and is very excited to be back in the gym working with the wonderful staff and players at SVVC.

Eric Olson | Head Coach

Eric Olson

I am excited to coach the Saddleback Volleyball Club 13’s.  I look forward to sharing my love for the game of volleyball with the girls. It is always fun to witness individual player and team development throughout the season. Volleyball has been my passion area of study for 36 years. In my past playing and coaching experiences, I have witnessed the positive impact that volleyball and sport participation can have on the mental, emotional , physical development, and maturation of our youth. I am excited to watch our girls grow in the game and learn how to support one another as they work together as a team.
